DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING TO PREPARE:
- Complete the book, “Grit” by Angela Duckworth
- Watch this episode of the show “Show Offs“ on BYUtv.
- Watch your favorite movie and analyze it. Come to Vision day having answered these questions and write them down.
- What is the overall message, moral or lesson from this movie? Did you learn anything? Do you agree with the message?
- Who is your favorite character and why are you drawn to them?
- Bring your favorite quote from the movie and tell us why it is your favorite quote.
- How does the director use cinematography to tell us the story?
- How does the director use sound to tell us the story?
- Why should someone watch this movie?
- Please come ready to discuss your favorite movie within your movie groups.
- Over the next 4 weeks and before our first imaginative arts class please take time to watch some of the favorite movies of your group and analyze them. Get a group chat going and discuss these.
- Think about the value you’ve been assigned. Come with some ideas for a value themed flag that you’ll be making with your team Thurs. morning. Bring a quote and a scripture that exemplifies the value to you. You’re team will decide on one scripture and one quote together from the ones you all bring. Be ready to collaborate and work together with your team. You’ll have a cloth flag and fabric markers to work with.

DON’T FORGET:
- a waterbottle
- a camp chair to sit on
- your copy of the book “Grit” or your notes from listening. Hint, hint… if you’re listening, we expect you to be writing down notes and quotes you like or marking them in your book.
- a notebook or 3-ring binder (with paper) for a Common Place Book (we’ll talk more about this on vision days) and something to write with.
- we will be taking yearbook photos first thing Thurs, so come prepared for that.
- everything you need Friday to enjoy a day on the water: modest swim suit, sunscreen, hat, etc.. (Please don’t wear your swimsuit all day, it tends to get uncomfortable and you will have plenty of time to change.)
SCHEDULE
DAY 1: Thurs. Sept. 5 (Kelly’s Grove)
Start the morning together at 9:30 with breakfast AND YEARBOOK PHOTOS. (Tell yourself 9am if you think you’ll be late.) Family dinner at 5:30pm followed by a family game and glow stick cannon. Ending around 9PM (all meals this day will be provided)
DAY 2: Friday Sept. 6 (Salem Pond)
Start at 10am. (Tell yourself 9:30am if you think you’ll be late.) Please eat breakfast at home before you come. Lunch and dinner provided. Canoeing and water races all afternoon. Bring your swimming clothes and be prepared to get wet! Ending around 6pm.
