The Blind Man And The Elephant
By John Godfrey Saxe

(October 24)
It was six men of Indostan, to learning much inclined,
who went to see the elephant (Though all of them were blind),
that each by observation, might satisfy his mind.

The first approached the elephant, and, happening to fall,
against his broad and sturdy side, at once began to bawl:
“[Why], bless me! but the elephant, is nothing but a wall!”

Some of you are rocking it with your shuffle dance! I’m just going to give you the link to the folder that has some of my favorite tutorials. Start slow. Do THIS STEP (running man), and then if you want to explore others you can 🙂 Click HERE

This week we are continuing to learn about famous inventors and inventions. I am hoping that you know a few things about some of the most famous inventions. Maybe you are inspired to think of how some of the inventions came from lots of trial and error and some happened by mistake.

Have you ever made a lapbook before? It is a folder that contains pictures and writing of things you have learned. I gave the lapbook to your mom and she can help you get started. It will take a lot of writing, or you can draw pictures. You can have help if the writing gets to be too much. Will you bring it to class and show us yours?

Also, I noticed that there isn’t a picture to put on the front of your lapbook. Can you make a cover for it? Maybe you can give it a title, draw a picture, or anything else that shows what your lapbook is about.

A lot of inventions begin by someone noticing there is a problem and trying to fix it.  For example, I had scratches from my dogs on my back door and invented something that covers, protects and keeps them from damaging it.  I started marketing my product with the help of Melody and Talmage’s dad. I never quite followed through, but maybe someday I’ll get it marketed and online.  Just think, I’m saving the world one door at a time with my invention!

I want you to think of something you can invent!  It might be something you can actually design and build.  Or, it might be something that you think of, and maybe don’t have all the skills that it would take to build it, but with serious thought and trial and error you can come pretty close.

Create it! Show us! Tell us about your invention. What does it do? How does it work?

Finish reading The Monster Missions! We’ll do our book club in class!
