Welcome back to using our minds to see pictures
Playing with Words–Poetry
Here’s another really fun Jack Prelutsky poem. This time he wants us to imagine why we’re so blessed our nose is right where it should be! Can you “see” all the different places your nose could be? Draw another silly place your nose might be. Bring your picture to class and be ready to present your masterpiece.
Be glad your nose
Jack Prelutsky
Be glad your nose is on your face,
not pasted on some other place,
for if it were where it is not,
you might dislike your nose a lot.
Imagine if your precious nose
were sandwiched in between your toes,
that clearly would not be a treat,
for you’d be forced to smell your feet.
Your nose would be a source of dread
were it attached atop your head?
it soon would drive you to despair,
forever tickled by your hair.
Within your ear, your nose would be
an absolute catastrophe,
for when you were obliged to sneeze,
your brain would rattle from the breeze.
Your nose, instead, through thick and thin,
remains between your eyes and chin,
not pasted on some other place–
be glad your nose is on your face!

Playing with the Mind–Escher Art
We are going to take a closer look at M.C. Escher’s Art. This time we are going to make our own optical illusions.

Do you notice the cube this man is holding? Let’s make one of our own!
Here are some videos…you can do one, two or three–you get to choose
- How to Draw a Penrose–Easy, about 6 minutes
- How to Draw and Optical Illusion–Medium, about 11 minutes
- How to Draw an Impossible Cube–hard, about 8 minutes
Playing with Physical Space–Energy Circle
This is a game you’ll need to play with your family or a group of friends. It’s called “Energy Circle.” Everyone stands in a circle and one person gets to start. They make an action and a sound and then everyone in the circle gets to do the same thing until it gets back to the beginning. Then it’s the next person’s turn. This video shows you how to do it.
