Charlottes Web Book Club

This is our last book club! I hope you enjoyed all six of our books we’ve read together, I would love to hear which one was your favorite!

This week finish reading Charlottes Web if you haven’t already done so!

THEN I want you to learn a brand new word. Think of words you already like — words like “happy” or “pretty” or “hilarious” or “cool” and then ask your mom to help you find a BRAND NEW WORD that means the same thing. Charlotte put big fancy words in her web and you are going to do the same thing!

Once you have found your word and know what it means I want you to write that word into a spiderweb that you can bring to class. You can get as creative as you want with your spiderweb, you could do white paint on a black peice of paper, you could use yarn and glue it to cardstock, you could use a white crayon with watercolors — you come up with the creative way you want to share your word with the class!

Next, in your best handwriting copy this quote from the book:

“Why did you do all this for me?’ he asked. ‘I don’t deserve it. I’ve never done anything for you.’ ‘You have been my friend,’ replied Charlotte. ‘That in itself is a tremendous thing.”

This is our last book club class before summer hits so I would love to hear about one of your favorite books so we can all get great reading ideas for the summer. We are going to set up book displays so bring anywhere from 1-10 of your favorite books to put on display around the room.

I also want you to prepare a book report on one of the books. There are a lot of fun ways to do a book report! This is where you tell us what the book was about and what your favorite parts of the book are and why you think we should read the book!

Here is a list of ideas for your book report:

Cereal Box Book Report

Decorate a cereal box with:

• Front: title + illustration
• Back: summary + favorite part
• Inside: small objects representing the story

Character Dress-Up + Presentation

Come dressed as a character and:

• Introduce yourself in character
• Share what happens in the story

Story Comic Strip

Draw 4–6 boxes showing:

• Beginning, middle, end
• Speech bubbles for characters

“Book in a Bag”

Bring a bag with 3–5 items representing the story
Explain each item to the class

Diorama (Shoebox Scene)

Create a 3D scene of:

• Favorite moment
• Important setting

Mini Oral Presentation

Simple and short:

• “This book is about…”
• “My favorite part was…”

Themed Snack Creation

Make or draw a snack inspired by the book
Explain how it connects

Puppet Show

Use simple puppets to:

• Act out a scene
• Retell the story

New Book Cover Design

Redesign the cover:

• Include title, author
• Add illustrations + a short “blurb”

Story Cube

Decorate a cube (paper or box):

• Characters
• Setting
• Problem
• Solution

“Book Commercial”

Pretend you’re on TV:

• “You should read this book because…”
  Keep it fun and dramatic

So that’s it!

• Finish the book
• Make your spiderweb with your new word
• Copy the quote in your best handwriting
• Bring your favorite books to class
• Prepare a book report on one of your favorite books to present in class
