Maps
1. Are you working on your Geography Songs? I hope you are listening often! It is so easy to memorize things when we set words to music. By now you should know:
If you are “behind” it’s okay. But, get listening! You can catch up!
This month we are studying Central and South America! Listen to THIS SONG that has all the countries of Central America and South America. Once you have it memorized you can find the countries on a map and before long, you’ll know them all!
And here is a link if you want to print a map. One is blank and the other has the countries filled in.
Project
2. I have a list of assignments that I need done for class 🙂 Would you check out THIS LIST and sign up for anything that sounds fun/interesting to you.
Books
3. Books! Check out books on Asia from the library. Ask your mom. She may have a few already available for you. Picture books are my favorite way to learn! Here are a few I suggested that your mom may have purchased. Another fun thing is to have your mom help you look for books on YouTube about South/Central America.

Project Life, Birthday Cards and Calendar
Project Life: Boredom! Yikes. I often feel that in January. I have to get creative in order to not be bored. Make a list of things that you do when you are bored. What kinds of things are you interested in trying? What things do you want to learn about? Do you feel excitement with the items on your list?
Birthday Cards: Happy ½ birthday Fielding! Make him a card! Happy ½ birthday Emma ! Make her a card! Happy ½ birthday Lucy! Make her a card! (And we are still collecting cards for Vilate. If you haven’t yet, make her one as well!)
Calendar: Fill in your Calendar! Put the 1 on Thursday! There are 29 days this month. Do you have family members with a February birthday? Put it on! Valentine’s Day is on February 14th. Vanguard Valentine Party will be on February 15th. Leap Day is on February 29th. Mark the Sabbath on each Sunday. What else is going on this month? Ask your parents and mark it on your calendar!
This year is Leap Year! Do you know why we have Leap Year? Check out this video: Leap Year for Kids
New Book For Book Club!
Start reading The Children of Noisy Village 🙂
Poem
Practice the first two stanzas and memorize the third stanza. Recite it to four family members. (It is ok if they need to prompt you. You can print a copy here.
Methuselah’s Diet
Anonymous
Methuselah ate what he found on his plate,
And never, as people do now,
Did he note the amount of the calorie count.
He ate it because it was chow.
He wasn’t disturbed as at dinner he sat,
Devouring a roast or a pie,
To think it was lacking in granular fat
Or a couple of vitamins shy.
He cheerfully chewed each species of food,
Unmindful of troubles or fears
Lest his health might be hurt by some fancy dessert,
And he lived over 900 years.
