  • This week we will practice the first, second and THIRD stanzas of our poem:
  • And one last reminder to keep reading Prairie Thief by Melissa Wiley. The book club discussion will be October 17th.

Time for some fun! Are you ready?

Have you ever noticed that at the center of the word EARTH is the word ART? Isn’t that fun? Our Father who is the MASTER creator… gave us an earth that is chuck full of art! EVEN IN THE NAME! I love art! And I love art of all shapes and sizes.

Let’s get some of your artistic juices flowing!

  • Grab a pencil or a black marker along with a piece of paper and give one of this a try! If your mom is okay with it, explore some more of these fun tutorials at arthubforkids.com.

Or you can try this one!

Or if you want to try something a bit harder, try this one!

What did you think? One line at a time can create some fun things, huh?! You know, art, isn’t just made by drawing, coloring or painting. It can be sculpting. It can be carving. It can actually be something EVEN MORE! Do you like to listen to music? Do you like to dance? Did you ever stop to think that those things would be considered art as well? I read that ART is something that that tells a story or conveys a message. Have you ever thought of MUSIC as something that tells a story or trys to convey a message?

  • Listen to this song. Does it tell a story? What’s the story about? (twinkle twinkle little star)
  • What about this song. Does it also tell a story? (the wheels on the bus)

Many of our songs tell stories. And not just songs for children.

  • First, listen to this next song. It’s called Flight of the Bumble Bee, composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. He wrote the song to sound like a zip zip zip of a fast flying bumblebee! As you listen, can you hear the “zip” of the bee in the song? What else do you think the bee is doing? Where do you think he is flying? What do you think he encounters along the way?

Could you imagine the bee flying around?!

  • Now, listen to the song one more time and THIS TIME, pretend YOU are the bee zipping around. If your mom gives you permission, have her video you dancing along to the music and send it to me!

Did you get a work out?! If you were moving as fast as the imaginary bee is in this song, you may need a little bit of a nap!

Good job for the week. Here is your printable check off list.

Alright, buckle your seat belt this year ROOKIES, because this year we are going to explore some fun songs like the ones you’ve listened to that tell some really fun stories! We are going to learn about some really old, but talented people who wrote (or composed) some famous songs that tell stories. We are going to create our own pieces of musical art as well as learn some fun things about the “ART” that Heavenly Father put in, on and around our world! See you on Thursday and get ready to have some…
