IN YOUR NOTEBOOK: While you are analyzing the speech write down your answers to the questions below.

Are you ready to have some fun?
We have talked a lot about speeches, but that isn’t the only type of presentation you can make. When you have a skill you want to teach to others, that is a good time to put together a demonstration.
A demonstration is a presentation in which you teach/demonstrate how to do something.
Watch the videos below to get an idea of how a demonstration can work.
After each demonstration video, evaluate the presenters as if you are the judge. Pay close attention to:
- body language,
- visual aids, and
- parts of the demonstration. (Intro, Body, Conclusion)
Then ask the following questions:
- What were some of the strengths?
- What were some weaknesses?
- If it were you, what would you do differently?
DEMONSTRATIONS TO WATCH AND ANALYZE:
You get to GIVE A DEMONSTRATION AT HOME!! You need to think of something you can teach, here is a list to get your ideas flowing:
Food & Cooking
- How to Make Butter in a Jar – Shake heavy cream in a mason jar until it turns into butter, then taste the difference!
- Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag – A hands-on lesson about freezing points using salt and ice.
- Fruit & Veggie Taste Test – Teach about local, seasonal produce and how to identify ripe fruits.
- Healthy Snack Creations – Show how to make simple, nutritious snacks like fruit kabobs, yogurt parfaits, or energy bites.
Animals & Agriculture
- How to Show a Small Animal – Demonstrate handling and presentation tips for rabbits, chickens, or guinea pigs.
- The Importance of Worms in Soil – Create a worm bin and show how they help compost.
- How to Plant a Container Garden – Teach how to grow herbs or vegetables in small spaces.
STEM & Science
- The Science of Yeast – Show how yeast makes bread rise with a balloon and bottle experiment.
- Water Filtration Experiment – Demonstrate how different materials filter water.
- DIY Volcano – Create a fun baking soda and vinegar eruption while explaining chemical reactions.
Crafts & DIY
- How to Make Beeswax Wraps – A sustainable alternative to plastic wrap.
- Tie-Dye with Natural Dyes – Use foods like turmeric and beets for a nature-friendly tie-dye project.
- How to Finger Knit – Teach a simple and cozy fiber art skill.
Outdoor & Survival Skills
- How to Build a Campfire (Safely!) – Teach different fire-building techniques without lighting an actual fire.
- Basic First Aid for Kids – Demonstrate simple first aid techniques like treating cuts and making a basic first-aid kit.
- Knot Tying for Beginners – Show essential knots like the square knot and bowline.
YOU GET TO GIVE A DEMONSTRATION AT HOME.
HERE’S HOW:
- Refer to the list above and CHOOSE something you can teach to your family. (Don’t feel like it has to be from this list, you may choose something else, this is just to help your start forming your own ideas for your demonstration.)
- GATHER the supplies you need.
- Take 10 minutes to CREATE an outline for your presentation.
- (OPTIONAL, but fun) Consider using posters to emphasize important points. They can be cute or cool, that’s the fun part!
- Practice your demonstration 3-4 times.
- Give a 5-10 minute Demonstration to someone in your family or you whole family.
REMEMBER to use the basic “PARTS of a SPEECH” (Introduction, Body, Conclusion – refer to what we have discussed other weeks.)
BONUS POINTS for doing your demonstrations more than once for REAL PEOPLE. (Vanbucks)
