Foundations of Digital Mapping – February, 26th

1. Topics: Latitude/longitude, waypoints, tracks, digital vs. paper maps, Google Earth fun features.
2. Lab Google Earth: Digital Scavenger hunt. Drop waypoints, measure distances, locate coordinates.

Homework:

1. Get your phone and computer ready to follow along. This is a digital mapping class so you’ll definitely want a good phone at the very minimum. A laptop or desktop is extremely useful for planning.
   • Install Gaia GPS app on a phone.
     • Setup an account (DON’T PAY ANYTHING), I have promo codes for a free 90 day account, we’ll set those up during class.
     • Laptop or desktop with Google Earth Pro installed. Scroll down and click the link to Download Earth Pro on desktop.
2. Watch and follow along with this YouTube video about how to use Google Earth Pro.
3. If you have a laptop bring it to class each week.
