What is weather and why does it matter? In our modern world of life in houses and jobs in offices, sometimes we don’t give a second thought to what is happening outside. But, there are many situations that are significantly influenced by weather conditions. List several situations in your life that are impacted by weather. Do you look outside before choosing your outfit for the day? Do you consult a forecast before planning an outdoor project?

Watch the following videos to learn more. Notice what types of instruments or tools are used to measure different elements of the weather.

Print this Weather Report and track the weather for the week leading up to class. Pick a time of day and set an alarm to remind you (so that you complete this at the same time each day). In the “weather” column, write down the current temperature and what you observe when looking outside. Ask a parent to help you look up the high and low temperature and times for sunrise and sunset online each day.

Watch this video to help you get started.

A tornado then came dancing by,
it swung and did the twist.
